Sheng: A Kenyan Lingo

Decided to join the bandwagon
Of keeping abreast with the culture
That has taken over the scenery
Though it is very dynamic
Prone to change so rapidly
In the event you don’t keep the tempo
The chase would turn out sour

Welcome to the world that is Sheng
Coined from Dosheng in Europe
Precisely from Germany and Denmark
A lingo used as a form of communication
It has already curved out a niche
An important tool of expression
Now it soothes the masses
Who easily identify with it
Especially in the urban setting
One has to really be versatile in this culture
Which is synonymous to the Kenyan urban
Take note that it is not for the urbane
Who despise and loathe it with a passion
A tool that has no basis they claim
Evident and showcased in their progeny
Who have a fluency in the Queens English
This is to the chagrin of those that adore sheng
But sheng is a phenomena so unique

Words are derived from many languages
English and Swahili form a major part
With local native lingos also contributing
In its grammar and perpetuation
It has grown into a business language
To lure the masses who easily identify
Creating a new breed of generation
That has been swayed by its fancy and pull

Mrembo is for a lass
Mbulu is for a television
The words keep on changing though
And they vary depending on location
Which again is not static
But it has its lowdown
Children perform poorly when it comes to exams
Especially the languages
Expressing self in English becomes difficult
Plus it erodes morality in other instances
Yet Sheng is a force to reckon with
